2011 Eureka! Fellow Jarrid Keller

Jarrid KellerMy name is Jarrid Keller.  I am the Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the California State Library.  I am responsible for directing the activities of the Information Technology Bureau, which provides support of application, software, and systems to enhance the mission and objectives of all California State Library programs.

My State career began in 1996 at the Stephen P. Teale Data Center.   At the Data Center, I helped create a statewide firewall and network based intrusion detection service for State Agencies.  This was a “first of its kind” service.  From 2005 to late 2009, I joined the California Student Aid Commission.  I managed the Commission’s Customer and Network Services Branch, and was responsible for providing online access to CalGrant recipients.

I am new to the Library world.   I joined the California State Library in October 2009.

I am not a Librarian.  I am also an IT person who possesses a degree in Organizational Communication Studies, not Computer Science.  I am the type of person who does not like to be confined by career boundaries, and tries to crossover to other areas to learn new things and make a difference.  Since joining the Library, I have worked to automate manual Library processes and expand online services to our patrons.

I enjoy playing tennis, and spending time with my little Jack Russell Terrier Jazzy.  She keeps me busy and makes life very interesting.  She can give the Energizer Bunny a run for his money!

I’m excited to be part of the Eureka! this year.  Eureka! will provide me with new insight into the Library world, and provide an opportunity for self-improvement and continued professional development.
