2011 Eureka! Fellow Joshua Fox
I currently work at the Sun City Library as Branch Manager, Sun City is a library within the Riverside County Library System. Before libraries I worked for Border’s Books and Music. About 7 years ago I began work as a page at the Ontario City library, and since have worked at a wide variety of libraries and positions. The last 3 years I have been a branch manager within Riverside County. This includes ordering, scheduling, supervising, and all the other details that go into management. I have worked with local historical groups to bring programming to the their relevant library, I have given presentations to middle school students as well as Lion’s Clubs, Kiwanis, and Garden Clubs! All of these were focused on explaining what a library is and how a library benefits the local culture (as well as the role played within said culture).
I applied to Eureka to make contacts and be inspired by ideas that do not naturally come my way (either through limited staff and resources or my own personality). It is all about ideas and connecting those ideas to other ideas, people, services, and what have to create something truly special.
On the personal side I read a lot, favorite authors include Douglas Adams, Neal Stephenson (Cryptonomicon I feel is a must read), most authors published by Pyr. I have also, of late, really enjoyed the Russian and Eastern European Fantasy authors, the Nightwatch series and the Witcher books in particular. I also listen to a lot of music. My taste in music runs to the very heavy, such as Opeth or Between the Buried and Me. Anything that Steven Wilson or Kevin Moore have a hand in is often brilliant.
I do believe Dirk Gently (Douglas Adams) was onto something with the idea about the fundamental interconnectedness of all things...
