2012 Eureka Fellow: Chelsie Harris

Chelsie HarrisI’ve worked for San Diego County Library (SDCL) for six years, first as a library technician in our branches and currently as a librarian in our Community Relations division.  I’m responsible for countywide promotions, event support, staff training, developing partnerships, some programming, and writing everything from news releases to speeches for dignitaries to award applications.   I absolutely love grant writing.  Our graphic designer passed away last year and I inherited his responsibilities despite having zero education or experience.  His position is still vacant and I’ve learned a ton.  I’ve even managed to produce a few “big” pieces that look somewhat decent… as long as you don’t look closely.  :)

I just attended my first conference (ALA Anaheim… I’m still recovering) and am looking for ways to get more involved professionally.  If you have any tips or suggestions on good places to start, let me know!

I wanted to attend the Eureka! Leadership Institute to learn about myself and work on identifying/honing my leadership skills.  I’m also interested in meeting other professionals, sharing experiences, and establishing a professional network.

When I’m not wrapped up in the crazy world of Community Relations, I’m spending time with my husband, our friends, and our dogs and cats.  I love going for long drives in San Diego’s backcountry and I’m slightly obsessed with feeding people so we host dinner parties most weekends.
