2012 Eureka Fellow: Jenny Hanson

Jenny HansonJenny Hanson has been a part of the San Diego County Library team since February of 2005.  She is currently a member of Collection Development with selection duties for all adult and electronic materials, as well as overseeing collectionHQ for the system.  Prior to working in Collection Development she worked both in Program Services and at the Solana Beach branch, a joint use project with Earl Warren Middle School.

Jenny declared her intention of becoming a librarian in the fifth grade (that would be the Virginia part of fifth grade, not the California part – fun fact, as a Navy brat Jenny moved cross country 6 times between the ages of 4 and 14).  It took several years doing other things for her to come back to the idea of being a librarian.  In that time, she finished elementary, junior and senior high schools, got a BA in anthropology from San Diego State, and worked for a small publisher, an IT company, and a hotel.  The hotel drove her over the edge, and needing a “real job” she applied to SDCL, who hired her as an entry level Library Technician I, and the University of North Texas, who granted her an MLIS is 2009.  She’s now been in San Diego 19 years, the family record for years spent in one place, and is looking to buy her first house.  Preferably one with a nice big kitchen for all the baking she does.
