2009 Eureka! Leadership Institute: Jamie Finley

jamie finleyI oversee all marketing and programming for the Roseville Public Libraries. I coordinate all programs and events at the three branches of the library, including: working with Parks and Recreation staff to offer innovative tot, youth, teen and adult programs, supervising the Summer Reading Club, planning author events, and administering programs for various grants that the library receives. I also coordinate all of the marketing and advertising for the libraries, including: web page maintenance, graphic design, flier/banner/bookmark creation, sending calendar and news press releases to media, talking to reporters, etc.

In addition to my work at the libraries, I worked for over 8 years at a local community college bookstore. In addition to this long-held job, and while continuing my education at California State University, Sacramento, I held various part-time jobs. These include working as a medical records clerk for Mercy Medical Group, a clerk processing bank statements for a national bank and investment group, a sales clerk for a clothing store in the mall, a tech for the State's Parks and Recreation Archeology Lab, an assistant manager at a popular convenience store/gas station, and a hostess/cashier/waitress for a locally owned restaurant. These various jobs all taught me many important and varied things, the most important is this: none of these were the long-term career opportunity I was looking for, that I've now found working at the library.

In my community, I am a member of the YPO (young professionals organization) of the Chamber of Commerce, and attend many different events that the Chamber and YPO sponsor. I am also a frequent blood donor, and know that my contributions have literally saved peoples lives. I wanted to attend the Eureka! Institute because I'm constantly looking for ways to grow as an individual and as a future leader. I am also interested in the different styles of leadership, and discovering the different personal motivators and playing to people's strengths is particularly important.

I spend most of my spare time with my great family and wonderful friends. I love trashy romance novels, CSI: Las Vegas, traveling, the arts, and food.
