2009 Eureka! Leadership Institute: Kayre Hood
I work at the Archibald Library in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. I currently hold the position of Reference Services Coordinator. I supervise adult services staff (including full and part-timers), managing the reference desk and overseeing the technology center at this location. I have worked for Rancho Cucamonga Library Services for 15 years. I coordinate special programs such as the grant funded "The Big Read" a community wide reading program. I also facilitate the adult bookclub, Reader's Circle. And I participate in collection development and management by selecting all of the libraries' adult fiction, as well as supervising adult selectors at Archibald Library.
Throughout the years, I've had the opportunity to work on many projects, including the implementation of the homebound delivery program, HouseCalls, as well as working on the library's Telethon, to seeing our library grown into two locations. I'm attending Eureka to develop new skills and networks, to continue to move forward in my career, to make a difference in my library and community.
I am married and have one grown child, who is serving in the U.S. Air Force. I enjoy reading, it is my passion, while in library school I went through tutor training and was a literacy tutor at a local library. If I wasn't a librarian, I would probably be an English teacher. I enjoy arts & crafts, my current interests are knitting and crocheting, and I also re-learned how to play the piano a few years ago and how to play the celtic harp, rekindling an interest in music. I also like walking our dog on the Pacific Electric Trail.
