2011 Eureka! Projects: An Introduction and Guide

The selection, design, and implementation of a significant community-oriented project is a key element of the Eureka! leadership experience. This webinar will provide you as a 2011 Eureka! participant with the information you need to begin developing your individual project, including:

  • An overview of the project element
  • Timeline, from selection through presentation at Anniversary event
  • Characteristics of good Eureka! projects (and which types of projects are not suitable for Eureka!)
  • Identification and documentation of community need addressed by project
  • Elements of project design
  • Writing the LSTA grant application
  • Managing the project
  • Quantifying project benefits

At the end of this one-hour webinar, you will be able to:

  • Explain the purpose and importance of the Eureka! project element
  • Identify the steps and deadlines in the process
  • Describe the characteristics of a project that is suitable for Eureka!
  • Start working on the identification and design of your project
  • Know where to go when you need help

Please note: This webinar is required for all 2011 Eureka! Leadership Program participants. If you cannot attend the live webinar, you must watch the archive. You are encouraged to have your supervisor either attend the live session or watch the archive.

Kathy Gould is the director of the Palos Verdes Library District. She has been a Eureka! Institute mentor for the last three years, and has evaluated the Institute applications in 2010 and 2011.

Holly Hinman is the director of the Infopeople Project and is responsible for oversight of the Eureka! Leadership Program. She also teaches the four-week online course during which you write your LSTA grant application.
