2014 Eureka! Leadership Institute Mentor: Michelle Perera
Michelle is the Assistant Library Director for Rancho Cucamonga Library Services, where she has worked for 19 years. Michelle holds a BA in English and a Master of Library Science. Michelle has also worked for Upland, Glendora, and San Marino Libraries, and taught for 7 years for SJSU SLIS program. Michelle received the CLA Award for Excellence as a Public Librarian in 2008, was named a Mover & Shaker by Library Journal in 2013, and currently serves as a Board Member for the California Library Association.
In Rancho Cucamonga, Michelle's responsibilities include: day to day operations, staff development and training, developing new ideas and services, the city website and intranet, and, grant writing and fund development. Some of the accomplishments in Rancho Cucamonga of which she is most proud are the Play and Learn Islands™ project, the Staff Innovation Fund™, and of course, winning the National Medal for Museum and Library Service in 2013. She loves her job and is most proud of her talented, innovative, enthusiastic staff in Rancho Cucamonga.
In Michelle's spare time, she loves to travel, go to concerts and the theater, watch football and basketball, go to the movies, take photos, and watch reality TV. She has a cat – Leo – who showed up at her Library in the travel section, so she took him home and Smokey Bear – who showed up at her house and adopted her.
